LEADERSHIP IS NOT CUT TO A PARTICULAR CLASS OF GENDER. INASMUCH AS WOMEN CAN DO WHAT MEN CAN DO, FEMALES CAN EQUALLY OR BETTER BECOME GREAT LEADERS AS THEIR MALE COUNTERPARTS. LADIES HAVE THE POWER TO LEAD, BUT TIMIDITY AND DISBELIEF IN SELF POTENTIALS AND ABILITIES MAKES MOST OF THEM TO SHY AWAY FROM LEADERSHIP AFFAIRS. STAND UP LADIES, AND GET RID OF MEDIOCRITY, TIMIDITY AND DISBELIEF IN ONESELF AND TAKE BOLD STEPS TO ENTER ROOMS WHICH MANY BELIEVE ARE FOR MEN ONLY. YAA ASANTEWAA OF GHANA, MARGARET THATCHER OF THE UNITED KINGDOM, AMINA OF NIGERIA AND ELEN JOHNSEN SIRLEAF OF LIBERIA ARE GREAT MODELS FOR YOU ALL. TAKE THE STEP MY DEAR FEMALE COLLEAGUES, FOR YOU ARE ALSO EQUALLY CAPABLE AS YOUR MALE COUNTERPARTS. GOD BLESS AND STRENGTHEN YOU AS YOU TAKE A BOLD STEP.

A leader needs people around Him. But the question that comes up is, "What kind of people do you need around you? I know the only response of an average man will be, to have good people around oneself. A leader need all kinds of people irrespective of their race, characteristics, personal qualities and attributes, gender, just to mention a few. Critics are very important groups of people needed anybody aspiring to be a great leader. A leader who endures criticisms always ends up successful in their leadership pursuit. They act as catalyst and agents of correction to the leader inadvertently.
What do we say then? Should we say a leader needs people around him so he should make people his only source of strength? Absolutely not. A leader do not have to chase people; he has to be himself and use his strength to achieve what he has ahead of him. A leader may have a good vision but not everybody may buy into that vision. Some may and others may not. Those who believe and understand the viability of that vision will get closer to the leader and support him in that pursuit. On the contrary, those who do not understand or support such a vision will move away and act as critics to mar the efforts of the leader in his pursuit.

STRIVING TO REACH THE VISION

"A man who won't die for something is not fit to live"  - Martin Luther King, Jr.

What do you have to die for? Do you have a vision? Is that vision worth dieing for?
A leader is a person with great vision and who is prepared to pursue that vision irrespective of the resources available at a point in time. The difference between a leader and an ordinary man is the absence of vision and readiness to pursue a course with no respect to one's current resources.
Great men who exhibited great leadership characteristics and qualities spearheaded every vision they had and they worked indefatigably in spite of looming dangers, marring and maligning by people who do not support their vision.
The greater your vision, the greater the challenges you are likely to face as you strive to reach your vision. Great men such as Martin Luther King, Jr., Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Nelson Mandela and other great leaders in the history of the world never attained the status of great leaders on a silver platter. They travailed through the thick and thin, and all the criticisms that were allayed at them for no other reason than to discourage them from pursuing their vision.
As a leader, you must be prepared to face criticisms of all nature. Disagreements will set in and other dream killers will also come your way, but with persistence and determination to achieve a course ahead, you will victoriously reach the final destination of one stage of your leadership pursuit.

MY PURSUIT FOR LEADERSHIP

           Eric Kwetey

Bearing the great torch of leadership, has been my vision ever since I started knowing a little about this world. I believe in leadership, and as a matter of fact, effective leadership. I believe leadership is one of the greatest and strongest vehicles that is constantly driving the world to where it is heading today. When I was a kid, I always strived to understand what true leadership means and how important it is in our daily discourse. I was enlightened through wonderful speeches and publications by renowned leaders, which gave me vivid elucidation on the whole idea of effective leadership.
I believe in Jesus Christ as the greatest leader of all times and I see Him as my greatest role model. I believe in myself and I also believe in other people's potentials and abilities. With a careful combination of my personal experience and other people's experience, I am gradually taking optimistic steps to embrace what the Lord has destined for me in my pursuit for greater heights in global Leadership discourse.
